Lucky #7

Kade turned seven back on October 22nd. He and buddies Ian Stelter and Eric Aschenbeck celebrated their birthdays together. With a few favors asked, we were able to put together a football party with the Brenham Cub Varsity football team. The football team lifts weights after every Friday night game, so we met up at the field house one Saturday morning after their weight lifting workout. I had talked to Coach Tim Oehrline about asking 10 or 12 of the players to come out and play football with the boys and their friends after their workout. He said that would be no problem at all. We got there a little early to set up on the outside porch. We were going to have chips, dips, sausage wraps, and cookie cake for dessert. We had everything we needed or so we thought. When the team was done lifting weights, it wasn't just 10 or 12 players that came out to play with the boys, it was the entire varsity football team. Now we have gone from feeding a handful of boys to feeding oh forty or so. Needless to say we had to make a store run and go home and raid our freezers for more sausage to cook, but it turned out perfect. The boys had a blast. There was no wiping those smiles off their faces that day. Happy Birthday Kade-O! We love you so much! We can't wait to see what year eight brings.

Champ Wins Tallest Dog!

Kade showed our Great Dane, Champ, in the dog this year at the fair. He entered in the "Tallest Dog Contest." He didn't have too much trouble winning that one.

Fair Time 2011!

As with every year, we made sure to clear our schedules for one night and devote it to taking the boys to the Washington County Fair. They love looking at the animals, watching the rodeo, and of course getting to ride a few rides in the carnival. We always go the Wednesday night of the fair because that is when they have the bull riding extravaganza at the rodeo arena. Brady, our little bull rider, was set on going to watch it as always. Before and during the bull riding they have a muttin bustin contest for the younger boys. Well, Brady had made his mind up that he was going to muttin bust this year. Knowing Brady, Dane and I had our doubts that he would actually go through with it, but we figured if we lost $10 no big deal. When his name was called to report to the shoots, he went without hesitation and got his helmet on and everything. While he was waiting for his turn, he had picked out the sheep that he wanted to ride; it was a smaller sheep standing in the corner. When the time came to get a sheep in the shoot for him, he watched intently as they ran a sheep in that was NOT the one he had previously chosen. Long story short, he didn't ride; $10 donated.

Fair Cook-Off!

Dane, Cody Stelter, and Grant Lischka entered the Washington County Fair Cook-off again this year. Last year was a bust coming home with no wins, but the guys changed their status this year. They ended up winning 2nd place with their ribs. Whether they win anything or not, we all just have a great time hanging out in great company.

Opening Day of Dove Season 2011!

Kade and Brady were on pins and needles waiting for the opening day of dove season this year. Kade was especially excited because he was going to get the opportunity to shoot his first dove with his 410. Papa Rau and Wesley Maurer, along with Austin, Avery, and Caleb came over to the house for the first hunt of the season. Kade hunted with Dane and as expected he shot his first dove. Brady hunted with Papa Rau and talked his ear off the whole time, but Papa says he makes a pretty good bird dog anyway. I don't think everyone got their limit, but they did end up with plenty of doves that day. The kids had a blast and can't wait until the next hunt.
